Slovak cucumber grower Imre Asztalos has started using USAF™ transmitters at his company Zelstar s.r.o. Zemne. The company also grows young cucumber plants in-house. With the technology, supplied by Ultramins, the company eliminates harmful microorganisms in the irrigation water, prevents algae growth, and stops biofilm from forming in the pipes. In recent years, Ultramins has experienced strong growth, now serving customers in over fifty different countries.
The grower notes that the young plants are growing very uniformly. “That’s something I’ve never experienced before. On top of that, I didn’t lose a single one of the 60,000 young plants we raised ourselves! All our plants also withstood the summer heatwaves better.”
The roots appear whiter and denser when looking into the substrate slabs. “At the end of the cultivation cycle, it takes more effort to remove the growing blocks due to the stronger root system.”
Thanks to the improved root system, the plants absorb nutrients more efficiently, so growers need to adjust the optimal levels accordingly. “These units also help us reduce fertilizer costs. The roots stay in the slabs better, and there are no clogged drippers or blocked drainage holes.”
All in all, the plants have become healthier since the Slovak growers started using Ultramins’ USAF™ transmitters, Imre concludes. “Even the taste of the cucumbers has noticeably improved!”
