"Danger of biofilm often underestimated"

Many growers are monitoring and improving their irrigation water on a daily basis. The focus is then often on controlling algae, bacteria, fungi and viruses. This makes sense, as failing to tackle algae and pathogens can cause a lot of damage to the crop, resulting in lost sales.

Ultramins helps effectively control algae, pathogens and viruses by deploying USAF™ ultrasonic cavitation transmitters. "Our transmitters have provided many growers worldwide with a huge improvement in their cast water and is the sustainable alternative to other less effective means," states Robert de Hoo of Ultramins.
Tackling biofilm
But the USAF transmitter goes one step further; it also tackles biofilm, he explains. "In basins and silos, deposits on walls will be broken down. As the water goes cleaner into the pipes, these will also become cleaner. In short, the cleaner the water chain, the greater the convenience and less the worry!"

Every grower knows that biofilm is difficult to tackle and can often only be removed with frequent labour-intensive cleaning. "Unfortunately not for long, because the biofilm is bound to return when biofilm is not sufficiently tackled. And therein lies the danger, because this leaves biofilm a breeding ground for the growth of all kinds of pathogens, such as Fusarium and Phytium."

Ultramins hears from the market that more and more growers are experiencing nuisance from biofilm and detaching parts of biofilm. "We are helping growers solve this problem by deploying the transmitters. The ultrasonic cavitation technology destroys all micro-organisms and breaks down biofilm."

Frank Dekker shows the pipe

Clean pipes
Guaranteed clean basins and silos without looking after them, maintenance-free, durable and energy-efficient. Too good to be true? Not according to Robert and his team and also growers who share their experiences, such as earlier grower Frank Dekker.

"The inside of the pipe was so clean, I sent a picture anyway," he shared during its crop rotation where he was able to look into a broken water pipe after an accident. The combination of hydrogen peroxide with ultrasonic made the grower no longer suffer from biofilm. "We replace the drip hoses during crop changes, but not other pipes. Now that a piece broke off a pipe that has been there for 20 years, you could nicely see that it works."
